Liveblogging the Oscars/Duece Bigalow: European Gigolo (JM)

8:56 PM: I have decided belatedly to live-blog the Oscars because I know you all really care. I am just hoping beyond hope the Norbit wins for Best Makeup. Sadly, it went to Le Vie En Rose, which is way less funny.

9:08 PM: Do you think the directors and producers of movies like The Golden Compass, which just won Best Visual Effects, are secretly pissed when the special effects guys get Oscars? I mean, their movie probably makes more money as a result, but still...

9:23 PM: Sometimes there are jokes that are funnier than their execution. For instance, to show what the Oscars would have been like without writers, they had montages like "The Oscars Salute to Binoculars and Telescopes in Movies". This is a pretty funny concept, and then they showed us the montage. Not so fascinating.

9:45 PM: At this point I got bored with the Oscars and turned on Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo, so I will live-blog that instead. By the way, kudos TBS on some awesome counterprogramming. At this point the real European gigolo got killed and Deuce is helping some blind people swim with dolphins. Let's be honest folks, entertainment should be measured in Schneider-units. Movies with Rob Schneider=1 Schneider, everything else is on the Schneider scale. For instance, Casablanca: .85 Schneiders, Life Is Beautiful: .68 Schneiders, The Animal: 1 Schneider.

1:50 AM: Alright, I am bad at live-blogging...

Jon Stewart is mostly disappointing so far, no? Btw, what did you make of Francis Ford Coppola's Youth Without Youth? It hasn't gotten much play, but it's a more engaging film than many of those being given awards tonight. Here's an interesting discussion of the film.
