Alright, so first of all why did no one tell me that Larry David has a blog on the Huffington Post? I mean seriously the five of you not related to either me or Dennis should be reading that instead. Well I mean, I suppose you can do both and that there might be slightly more than five, but not that much more. Anyway, this is Larry's rant about the Hillary 3 A.M. ad, and it's pretty amazing.
On a more serious note, Hillary has to stop tearing down Obama in comparison to McCain. It is acceptable for her to say, "I can compete better than Obama on foreign policy issues against McCain." (I don't really know if this is true or not... but it's a fair enough point to make). What she should not be pushing is this idea that she and McCain are above some sort of commander-in-chief threshold that Obama is not. That is a fairly disgusting tactic and it just reeks of Mark Penn. Either way, this is the kind of nonsense that makes me more favorably inclined to Obama, even though I am certain Hillary would be a better president. I have no problem with attacks or comparisons, but this goes way too far.
Finally, the whole Samantha Power thing just seems weird to me. Samantha Power is a well renowned expert on genocide and foreign policy. She called Hillary a "monster". This was a big mistake. Hillary's camp called for her resignation and they got it earlier today. I think this was a miscue on both sides. The truth is that she probably never should have been a surrogate in the first place, at least in any realm beyond strict foreign policy discussion. However, by all accounts she is quite brilliant and is a leader on incredibly important issues, like Darfur. It's a shame to lose her and I hope, no matter what happens, she is welcomed back in to the fold when the smoke clears.
